Description

A dramatic ukiyo-e woodblock scene depicts a towering, wind-shaped pine tree dominating the foreground against a luminous sunset sky of orange, yellow, and deep violet reflecting across a wide expanse of water. Small figures and teahouse structures nestle beneath the tree, while sailboats drift across the bay in the distance. This print is from Hiroshige's celebrated series 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' (1856–1858), depicting a scene along the Sumida River and its surrounding wetlands in Edo (present-day Tokyo), capturing the melancholy beauty of dusk over the landscape.
