Description

This Japanese woodblock-style composition frames a tranquil river scene with blooming cherry blossoms and wisteria arching across the foreground in soft pinks and purples, while sailboats glide beneath a distant mountain on a misty grey horizon. The work draws from Hiroshige's celebrated 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' series, depicting the Sumida River near the Suijin Shrine in what is now Tokyo — a waterway central to Edo-period life and commerce. The image has been rendered in a modern colorized interpretation, layering rainbow gradients over the traditional ukiyo-e line work to give the classic print a contemporary decorative sensibility.
