Description

A large red-crowned crane swoops dramatically from the upper left while a second crane stands in a verdant marsh below, all set against a luminous sunset sky blending coral, yellow, and green hues. Sparse trees and distant thatched dwellings frame the tranquil lowland scene. This woodblock print is from Hiroshige's celebrated series 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' (1856–1858), depicting the crane-rich wetlands around Minowa, Kanasugi, and Mikawashima — districts in what is now the Arakawa ward of Tokyo, historically known as resting grounds for cranes.
