Description
This vibrant ukiyo-e woodblock print depicts Gotenyama Hill at Shinagawa, a famous cherry-blossom viewing spot on the old Tōkaidō highway just south of Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Towering pines and clouds of pink sakura frame the eroded sandy bluffs while elegantly dressed figures stroll along the paths below, capturing the leisurely spirit of Japan's hanami season. The composition, from Hiroshige's celebrated 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' series, balances warm sandy earth tones with soft pink blossoms and a pale lavender sky.
