Description

This vibrant woodblock print depicts elegantly dressed figures relaxing on red mats beneath tall pines and blooming cherry trees, capturing the festive atmosphere of hanami (flower viewing) in early spring. The scene is widely associated with Asukayama, a celebrated cherry blossom park in Kita, Tokyo, which became famous for public hanami gatherings after Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune planted hundreds of cherry trees there in the 1720s. Hiroshige's characteristic layered green landscape, soft pink blossoms, and delicate figure work make this a quintessential example of Edo-period ukiyo-e nature and leisure imagery.
