Description

This delicate scientific illustration from Ernst Haeckel's landmark publication 'Kunstformen der Natur' (Art Forms in Nature) depicts an elegant arrangement of ctenophores — comb jellies — rendered in fine blue linework on a warm cream ground. Published in Germany between 1899 and 1904, the book celebrated the hidden beauty of natural organisms and became enormously influential on Art Nouveau design. The symmetrical, lace-like forms of the comb jellies, labeled 'Ctenophorae – Kammquallen' (comb jellyfish), radiate a serene, otherworldly quality that suits both scientific and decorative contexts.
