Description

This striking plate from Ernst Haeckel's landmark 1904 publication 'Kunstformen der Natur' (Art Forms in Nature) displays an arresting symmetrical arrangement of hexacoralla — stony, six-fold corals — rendered in meticulous black-and-white lithographic detail against a jet-black background. A large brain coral dominates the center, surrounded by radially symmetrical coral specimens of varied form, from branching staghorn types to flat star corals, each captured with extraordinary scientific precision.
