Description
This striking plate depicts a meticulous scientific arrangement of fungi — including latticed stinkhorns, puffballs, bird's-nest fungi, and other Basimycetes — rendered in luminous white against a deep black ground. The illustration is Plate 93 from Ernst Haeckel's landmark 1904 publication 'Kunstformen der Natur' (Art Forms in Nature), a German naturalist and artist whose work bridged scientific illustration and Art Nouveau aesthetics. The intricate lattice-work, honeycomb textures, and radial symmetry of the mushroom forms make this a dramatic and visually captivating piece for any nature- or science-inspired interior.
