Description

This plate from Ernst Haeckel's celebrated scientific art compendium 'Kunstformen der Natur' (Art Forms in Nature, first published 1899–1904) depicts a stunning array of bryozoans — tiny aquatic invertebrates also called 'moss animals' or Moostiere in German — rendered in meticulous lithographic detail against a dark slate background.
