Description

This iconic Impressionist oil painting depicts a ballet rehearsal in a sun-lit Parisian dance studio, with young ballerinas in white tutus practicing under the watchful eye of their elderly instructor Jules Perrot, who leans on a long stick at right. Edgar Degas painted 'The Dance Class' in 1874, and it now resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City — one of many works in which Degas captured the behind-the-scenes world of the Paris Opéra ballet.
