Description

This vibrant Post-Impressionist oil painting depicts Mont Sainte-Victoire rising dramatically above the ochre-orange rock formations of the Bibémus Quarry, framed by lush green trees and a luminous blue sky. Paul Cézanne painted Mont Sainte-Victoire — a limestone mountain near Aix-en-Provence in southern France — more than 60 times throughout his career, using its geometric forms to pioneer the structural approach to landscape that directly influenced Cubism. Warm amber quarry walls in the foreground anchor the composition, drawing the eye upward through dappled foliage to the pale, cloud-kissed summit.
