Description
This hand-colored engraving from Andreas Cellarius's landmark celestial atlas 'Harmonia Macrocosmica' (1660) depicts a geocentric diagram of planetary aspects, oppositions, and conjunctions, with a flat-projection world map at its center surrounded by concentric zodiac rings labeled in Latin with the signs from Gemini to Capricorn. Cherubs and allegorical cloud figures adorn each corner, lending the chart a Baroque grandeur characteristic of Dutch Golden Age cartography. Cellarius's 'Harmonia Macrocosmica,' published in Amsterdam by Johannes Janssonius, is considered one of the most beautiful celestial atlases ever produced and remains a prized reference in the history of astronomy and cosmography.
