Description

This antique engraving depicts Equuleus, the Little Horse constellation, rendered as a delicate horse's head emerging from billowing clouds, with the constellation's stars plotted across the composition. The plate is drawn from Johann Bayer's landmark celestial atlas Uranometria (1603), the first atlas to chart the entire celestial sphere and a foundational work in the history of astronomy. Latin text annotations and carefully positioned star markers give the image its characteristic scholarly character, blending scientific precision with elegant Baroque draftsmanship.
