Description

This engraved star chart depicts Boötes, the celestial herdsman, rendered as a bearded figure striding across the sky and holding a curved staff, with the constellation's stars overlaid as starburst symbols across his form and the surrounding field. The image comes from Johann Bayer's Uranometria (1603), the first printed star atlas to cover the entire celestial sphere, published in Augsburg and celebrated for combining precise Tycho Brahe positional data with exquisitely detailed figural engravings by Alexander Mair.
