Description

This plate depicts three Belted Kingfishers — two in dynamic flight and one perched on a weathered stump — rendered in Audubon's signature lifelike style against a serene river-valley landscape with misty blue mountains. Originally published as Plate 77 in Audubon's landmark ornithological work 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), one of the most celebrated natural-history publications ever produced. The Belted Kingfisher, common across North America, is shown in both male and female plumage with striking blue-grey and white coloring, capturing the bird's characteristic crested head and dagger-like bill.
