Description
A Swallow-tailed Hawk (Elanoides forficatus) sweeps dramatically across the composition in mid-dive, its bold dark-blue and white plumage contrasting against a warm cream background as it clutches a writhing snake in its talons. The plate captures Audubon's signature life-size naturalism and dynamic posing, first published in his monumental Birds of America (1827–1838), widely regarded as one of the most important ornithological works ever produced. The deeply forked tail and swept-back wings convey breathtaking motion, making this a striking statement piece for nature and wildlife enthusiasts.
