Description

This exquisite hand-colored engraving from John James Audubon's monumental work 'The Birds of America' depicts a Henslow's Bunting (now known as Henslow's Sparrow) perched on a mossy log amid lush foliage, with vivid red trumpet-shaped flowers rising above. The composition balances botanical detail with ornithological precision, characteristic of Audubon's celebrated naturalist illustrations produced in the early 19th century. Audubon's 'Birds of America,' originally published between 1827 and 1838, is regarded as one of the greatest ornithological works ever produced, featuring 435 life-size hand-colored aquatint engravings.
