Description
This exquisite plate from John James Audubon's monumental 'Birds of America' depicts two Loggerhead Shrikes perched among leafy green branches laden with dark berries, rendered with the meticulous naturalism that made Audubon famous. The birds are shown in characteristic poses — one in flight and one at rest — capturing both the elegance and the predatory alertness of this songbird known for impaling prey on thorns. Originally engraved by Robert Havell Jr. and published between 1827 and 1838, 'Birds of America' is celebrated as one of the greatest ornithological works ever produced, with original elephant folio prints now among the most valuable printed books in history.
