Description

Two Green Herons are depicted in vivid naturalistic detail amid marsh grasses, broad-leaved aquatic plants, and mossy rocks along a waterline — one bird standing alert with neck extended, the other crouching low. The illustration comes from John James Audubon's landmark work 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), widely regarded as one of the greatest ornithological publications ever produced, in which Audubon portrayed every bird at life size against detailed habitat settings.
