Description

A Cabot's Tern (now known as Sandwich Tern) stands in profile on a sandy shore, rendered with Audubon's signature naturalistic precision — its black cap, slender yellow-tipped bill, and pale grey-white plumage set against a softly muted coastal sky. A crab and bits of driftwood occupy the foreground, lending ecological detail characteristic of Audubon's ornithological studies from 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838). This hand-colored engraving exemplifies Audubon's landmark publication, widely regarded as one of the finest ornithological works ever produced, celebrated for its life-sized, dramatically composed bird portraits.
