Description

This naturalist plate by John James Audubon depicts two Richardson's Jaegers (Parasitic Jaegers) rendered with his characteristic scientific precision and artistic grace — one bird standing alert on a rocky coastal ledge, the other posed in profile on the ground, both showing the species' distinctive dark-brown plumage and pale underparts against a soft atmospheric shoreline background. The plate is number 272 from Audubon's monumental publication 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), widely considered one of the greatest ornithological works ever produced, featuring life-sized illustrations of North American bird species. The composition's calm coastal setting and meticulous feather detailing make it a distinguished piece of natural history art.
