Description
This plate depicts two Buff-breasted Sandpipers rendered with meticulous naturalistic detail — one standing on sandy ground, the other perched on rocky terrain near a calm coastal inlet, both shown in characteristic warm buff and mottled brown plumage. The composition is set against a softly washed sky and shoreline background, conveying the serene habitat of these migratory shorebirds. Plate 265 is from John James Audubon's landmark ornithological work 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), widely celebrated as one of the most important natural history publications ever produced and prized for its life-size, lifelike illustrations.
