Description

A large Wood Ibis (now known as the Wood Stork, Mycteria americana) is depicted mid-forage, its brilliant white plumage contrasting with dark iridescent wing tips as it bends its scaly, bare head toward a log-lined wetland bank. A moody, storm-lit forest and still water stretch into the background, capturing the lush subtropical habitat of the American South.
