This hand-colored engraving from John James Audubon's monumental 'The Birds of America' depicts the Hyperborean Phalarope (now known as the Red-necked Phalarope) in three poses — one in dramatic flight with wings spread, and two others resting on rippling green water. The composition showcases Audubon's signature naturalistic style, capturing the birds' distinctive rufous-and-gray plumage with meticulous detail.
