Description
This striking ornithological plate depicts two White-crowned Pigeons perched among lush green foliage adorned with clusters of vivid orange-red blossoms, rendered with the meticulous naturalism that defines Audubon's celebrated work. The birds are shown in close proximity, their deep blue-gray plumage and distinctive white crown patches rendered with luminous detail against a warm cream background. Originally published in Audubon's monumental 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), a landmark work in natural history illustration that documented over 400 species across the North American continent.
