Description

This naturalist plate from Audubon's landmark 'Birds of America' depicts two Blue-headed Pigeons (Columba cyanocephala) in lifelike poses atop a rocky outcropping, surrounded by delicate marsh grasses. The birds display their distinctive iridescent blue crowns and rich chestnut-brown plumage, rendered with the meticulous botanical and ornithological precision that made Audubon's work iconic. 'Birds of America,' published between 1827 and 1838, is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever produced and features life-size illustrations of North American bird species.
