Description
This exquisite plate from John James Audubon's monumental 'Birds of America' depicts three Carolina Turtle Doves — now known as the Mourning Dove — perched and in flight among blossoming white flowers and lush green foliage. The composition showcases Audubon's signature naturalistic style, capturing the birds' warm brown and tawny plumage with remarkable botanical detail. Originally engraved and published between 1827 and 1838, 'Birds of America' is celebrated as one of the greatest ornithological works ever produced, with Audubon documenting North American bird species in lifelike, full-scale illustrations.
