Description
A warm-toned Mangrove Cuckoo perches delicately among broad green leaves and white blossoms, rendered with the meticulous naturalistic detail characteristic of John James Audubon's landmark ornithological series 'The Birds of America.' The bird's tawny breast, olive-brown back, and boldly patterned black-and-white tail are captured in lifelike accuracy against a pale, airy background. Audubon depicted the Mangrove Cuckoo — a species found along coastal mangrove habitats of Florida and the Caribbean — as Plate 169 in his celebrated double-elephant folio, a monumental early 19th-century achievement in wildlife illustration.
