Description
This exquisite plate depicts Rose-breasted Grosbeaks — male and female — perched among the delicate needled branches of a spruce or fir tree adorned with small red berries, rendered with Audubon's signature botanical precision and lifelike naturalism. The striking black-and-white male displays his vivid rose-red breast patch while the more subtly patterned female rests above, capturing the species' characteristic sexual dimorphism. Originally published in Audubon's landmark ornithological work 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in the history of natural history illustration.
