Description

This striking plate from John James Audubon's monumental 'Birds of America' depicts the Ferruginous Thrush — now commonly known as the Brown Thrasher — rendered with characteristic scientific precision and dynamic naturalism. Several birds are shown in and around a leafy nest cradling speckled eggs, with one bird displaying its russet tail in full fan above the foliage. Audubon's 'Birds of America,' published between 1827 and 1838, is celebrated as one of the greatest ornithological works ever produced, featuring life-size illustrations engraved and hand-colored in aquatint.
