Description
This plate depicts a White-crowned Sparrow perched among large green leaves and clusters of dark berries, rendered with the exacting botanical and ornithological detail characteristic of John James Audubon's celebrated 'The Birds of America' series. The bird is shown in a naturalistic side pose, its distinctive black-and-white striped crown clearly visible against the lush foliage. Originally engraved as Plate 114 of 'The Birds of America' (published 1827–1838), Audubon's landmark double-elephant folio remains one of the most ambitious and prized natural history publications ever produced.
