Description
A Chipping Sparrow perches delicately on a bare branch beneath a graceful spray of flowering locust foliage, rendered with exquisite botanical and ornithological precision. The small bird is depicted with warm rufous, black, and white plumage markings characteristic of the species, set against a pale, airy background that gives the composition an elegant, specimen-plate quality. This plate (No. 104) is from John James Audubon's monumental 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), one of the most celebrated natural history publications ever produced, celebrated for its life-size, scientifically accurate illustrations of North American birds.
