Description
This hand-colored engraving from Audubon's monumental 'Birds of America' depicts two Scarlet Tanagers — the vivid crimson-and-black male shown in mid-flight above, and the olive-yellow female perched on a berry-laden branch below. The composition showcases Audubon's hallmark naturalistic detail, capturing each bird with lifelike posture and botanical accuracy. Originally published between 1827 and 1838, 'Birds of America' is celebrated as one of the finest ornithological works ever produced, featuring 435 hand-engraved plates of North American bird species.
