Description
This vivid natural-history illustration depicts two Blue Jays perched on a leafy branch adorned with trumpet-vine blossoms, one bird spreading its wings in a striking display of cobalt and white plumage against a warm, aged-parchment background. The composition captures the birds' bold markings and lively postures with meticulous botanical detail characteristic of Audubon's style. The plate originates from John James Audubon's monumental work 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), one of the most celebrated ornithological publications ever produced, originally engraved in large-format 'double elephant folio' size.
