Description

This iconic Art Nouveau lithograph poster depicts a luminous, red-haired woman draped in flowing white robes, raising a glowing glass of absinthe triumphantly above her head against a swirling sage-green background. Designed in 1896 by Belgian artist Henri Privat-Livemont, it was created to advertise Absinthe Robette, a Belgian brand of the famed anise-flavored spirit that was enormously popular across Europe in the late 19th century before widespread prohibition in the early 1900s. The sinuous lines, ethereal color palette, and sensuous female figure are hallmarks of the Brussels-based Art Nouveau movement, of which Privat-Livemont was a leading practitioner.
