Description

A bold, iconic Art Nouveau poster featuring a fierce black cat seated against a glowing orange halo on a warm golden-yellow background, with the text 'Tournée du Chat Noir de Rodolphe Salis' rendered in dramatic red and black lettering. The Chat Noir (Black Cat) was a celebrated cabaret in Montmartre, Paris, founded in 1881 by Rodolphe Salis — one of the first modern cabarets and a hub of bohemian artistic life in late 19th-century France. This 1896 lithograph by Théophile Steinlen was created to advertise a touring show of the cabaret's famous shadow-puppet theatre, and remains one of the most recognizable images of the Belle Époque era.
