Description

This richly hand-colored celestial hemisphere map depicts the Christian night sky, populated with biblical figures, angels, and constellations rendered as elaborate allegorical scenes set among clouds and heavenly light. It is drawn from Andreas Cellarius's landmark atlas 'Harmonia Macrocosmica' (Amsterdam, 1660), one of the most celebrated star atlases ever produced, which replaced classical pagan constellation figures with Christian saints and scriptural imagery. Cherubs, apostles, and divine personages fill the circular planisphere, making it both a scientific document of Baroque-era astronomy and a stunning work of devotional art.
