Description

A hand-coloured antique engraved map of Artois (Artesia Comitatus), a historic county in northern France bordering the English Channel, now part of the Pas-de-Calais department. The map features elaborate cartouche with heraldic coat of arms supported by cherubs in the upper right, rivers highlighted in yellow wash, and Latin place names throughout. Artois was historically significant as a territory long contested between France and the Habsburg-controlled Spanish Netherlands, with its capital at Arras.
