Description
This richly detailed plate depicts four Mallard ducks — including a drake with a vivid iridescent green head and a mottled brown hen — amid marshland reeds, yellow wildflowers, and still water. Originally published as Plate 221 in John James Audubon's monumental ornithological work 'The Birds of America' (1827–1838), the image exemplifies Audubon's signature naturalistic style of portraying birds life-size in dynamic, habitat-specific compositions. The soft watercolor palette of greens, chestnuts, and tawny browns lends the scene a serene, naturalist quality ideal for a study, library, or nature-themed interior.
